Introducing Jessica

Scribbled by Jo | 8:25 PM | , | 38 comments »

Jessica is the daughter of my friend Balakrishna Varma (whose paintings have been showcased in this blog earlier) and my little sister. We have been planning to do a recording but never had the chance to do it. Last Saturday I hopped over to Avalon and got Jess to record this beautiful song which is her current favorite. And I was totally amazed by her wonderful voice and a beautiful, confident rendition! Well, it is not much surprising though because Jess' mother Shobha Varma is daughter of Gopalakrishna Iyer, who is Guru to the Karnatik Saxophone player Kadri Gopalnath. Shobha aunty is also the niece of the famous trio in Karnatik music - T V Gopalakrishnan, T V Ramani and T V Vasan.

Here is Jessica singing Kangal Irandaal from the Tamil movie Subramanyapuram. This is her very first recording. Let her know what you think.

Song: Kangal Irandaal
Movie: Subramanyapuram
Sung by: Jessica Yvonne Varma

    Hi,

    I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be very good.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘Just Jo’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;

    BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!

    This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)

    Cheers,
    Ray

    WONDERFUL...I KEEP COMING BACK ALL THE TIME TO HEAR JESS'S RENDITION OF THIS WONDERFUL HIT FROM SUBRAMANYAPURAM. I THINK IT SOUNDS WONDERFUL WITHOUT THE BGM. ANYWAY I THINK JESS HAS MADE A WONDERFUL DECISION. OR HAVEN'T YOU HEARD? SHE IS JOINING RLV MUSIC COLLEGE IN TRIPUNITHURA FOR BA MUSIC. CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT MANY STALWARTS OF MUSIC INCLUDING KERALA'S OWN GANA-GANDHARVAN BEGAN THEIR JOURNEY FROM RLV, IT IS IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, A WONDERFUL DECISION TAKEN BY JESS AND PRAVEEN WITH THE BLESSINGS OF PRAVEEN'S MUMMY AND DADDY. ALL GOOD WISHES TO JESS. MAY YOU WITH GOD'S GRACE BECOME ONE OF KERALA'S QUAILS.

    Dear Jo,
    do you know the number of times I keep coming back to this page to hear kunji molu sing. She sings with such Bhavam and her Tamil accent is so perfect. Everytime I listen to this song, memories of the good old days in Avalon keep coming back. I mean the time when this little molu was here. I listen to the song and tears flow like an unending NILA. I miss you my little molu. God bless you and keep you.
