I have said it over and over again in this blog that I am a huge fan of Shreya Ghoshal (somebody please let her know that I am on bride-hunt these days :P). Her voice and the way that girl adapts herself to several Indian languages are just amazing. The other day I was listening to Vida Parayukayaano, from the Malayalam movie Big B (Not Bacchan), composed by the talented Alphons Joseph. It is Shreya's first Malayalam song and I must say she has done an amazing job in the pronunciation part, better than any of her counterparts from North or South of India could do (except a Malayalee).

The title song Cheeni Kum from the Hindi movie Cheeni Kum is a beautiful song composed by Ilaiyaraja and given life by Shreya (I also loved the male version of this song). Here is my humble attempt to sing this song. And this is the first song I recorded in my new Shure SM 58! Let me know how it sounds. :-)

Song: Cheeni Kum
Music Composer: Ilaiyaraja

Isn't this a very easy song for you? So you have done it very well.
About Hindi pronunciation: "thhODi" (thha as in rathham) and "dEkh" (kh as in dukham).....

Yes, Shreya Ghoshal has travelled far from her immature Devdas days.

    >> Dinu: LOL! Yeah, should search out there. :P

    >> Ethiran: Thanks a lot for those points. I will keep that in mind next time when I learn the Hindi songs. Please do keep giving such inputs. Thanks.

Where do I start? Shreya or You.!! Let's give the lady priority.!

Shreya is beautiful and has a great voice. Cheeni Kum is a superb album and she has done a great job with the Title song.

    Now to you:

Nicely sung..with a little bit of Mallu accent ( esp. the word 'Problem').

You are an amazing singer Jo...You sing in all languages..not many people can do it. Hats off.

Mic - Sound is great, with a few minor disturbances that I heard via my right speaker. Wonderful Karaoke.

    Great song, well done..

Bride-Hunt - Good Luck my friend..don't fall for looks !! or voice...!! Many people fall for it..and end up in misery !! Be careful..!!!

Wonderful singing Jo ! Seems like Ilayaraja has reused some of his old tunes for this movie ...This one sounds very similar to "Vandram Mantha" song in Tamil ..:-)

    >> NV: Thankoo! :-) About the pronunciation, yeah, am learning more and more with each new Hindi song I try to record and with the feedbacks I get from the kind blog readers here. About that particular 'problem' [:)], isn't it that way in the original song? That's how it sounded to me and I wanted to keep it in that way.

Melody and IR - as we both are great IR fans, do we even need to talk about it? Long live the maestero! :-)

The disturbances I think is in the karaoke track itself.

Bride hunt - it all depends on luck, I guess. Since it is going to be an arranged marriage, there is no option to know how the character is. :-)

    >> Manikandan: Thanks Mani. Do lemme know how it sounds. :-)

    >> Amith: Thanks Amith.

    >> Vishal: Thanks Vishal! Yeah, I guess the songs from Cheeni Kum are made out of his old Tamil songs. But it has a refreshing feel with new arrangements and voices.

    >> Vidyu: Thank youu! :-) Hey, it's been a long time! And thanks for emaliing Shreya. LOL!!

I like your version, Jo! Nifty new mike did a good job too it sounds like :-) No need to e-mail Shreya anything except the link to your songs online. The rest will take its own course :-)

    >> Manikndana: Thanks Mani! :-)

    >> Vinesh: Thanks Vinesh.

Somehow, having listened to the original version all these years from the beautiful Maniratnam movie Mouna Ragam rendered by SPB, this song (for that matter all songs from Cheeni Kum) didn't really strike a chord with me. Listen to the original here in case u haven't: http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/tamil/s/movie_name.4767/
    (The second one)

Yours was a nice rendition but for the Hindi. Apart from the words Ethiran pointed out, "haule" was also not proper I felt. A little more keen attention to the original singer's pronunciations would help...
    SM58 sure makes u sound great :)

Hey, thanks for that pointer. I will keep a close ear to the lyrics. :-)
