The 123/5 tag

It's been a while since I have played this tagging game. Now I am tagged, by Nariyal Chutney.

The rules:

  1. Name the person (of course with the link) who tagged you.

  2. Describe what you are asked to do, in this case publish 5th paragraph of page 123 of the book you are currently reading. (if the page does not have 5th paragraph, take the last paragraph. And if the book doesn’t have page no. 123, take the last page.)

  3. Tag five people.

I used to read a lot in the childhood days. All in Malayalam. Later that habit was gone. After a certain age, I started reading again as part of the English self-learning process and this time it was English fiction. I read very few books. These days I don't read any books at all except for magazines and newspapers. But I do collect books for a later read. Most of them have been shelved for some occasions like a lone picnic or for a time when I retire from work. :-) The un-read books would come around 20 by now.

What I read these days is the script of a Malayalam movie called Akale. Akale is based on The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. It is a wonderful movie by a very talented director in Malayalam, Mr. Shyamaprasad. I have become a fan of Shyam right from his early days when he was doing tele-films (can't ever forget his Peruvazhiyile Kariyilakal and Uyirthezhunnelppu). You could tell his talent by seeing those short tele-films.

The book has only 88 pages so I chose to quote from the last page. And it goes like this:

Margaret is in full spirits. She is going to serve the food while talking to Freddie's children. When the camera backs up, the picture of Rose that is placed above mantle piece becomes visible. The picture that was taken in one of those sanatorium days. The big eyes that is searching for love and empathy.

(Voice of) Neil: Nothing is immortal in this world, Rose. But there is love, and life. That is enough. That is enough for me.

The transparent lace curtain, in the breeze, covers the photo of Rose. The scene fades out...

Now to tag five people - I pass this on to Alexis, Ranjith, SloganMurugan, Thulasi and Sarmila.

What you said is Shyamaprasad is absolutely true . He is a director who makes such superb serials (especially some patterns and visuals in his serials are amazing) and films unlike those kitch cushy mishy mushy serials that grace Indian and Kerala television . Though he has won awards I thought he was always under rated outside Kerala . This is a nice way to take the tag and was wondering where you could get the text to write if it was an old Adoor movie . Of course no body talked out there :).

Jo, sorry for the absence from your blog. But the updates are not showing up in the Bloglines feed, so I thought you were busy. Hence no comments for the previous few posts.

Will do the tag soon. BTW, the new template looks really good.

    >> NC: This is a nice tag. I liked doing it. :-) Your observation is correct about Shyam.

LOL on the last comment. :-))

But even Adoor has changed a lot since the days of Elipathaayam etc when he came to Vidheyan, Kadhaapurushan etc. People who watched old Adoor films comments that "camera vacchu urangaan poyi". :-))

    >> Alexis: Alexis, thank you for pointing out the Bloglines error. I shall look in that.

Thanks for the comment on the template.
