Here is a wonderful site to learn music online - KarNatik. Karnatik has an audio lessons section for beginners and they allow you to download all the lessons in PDF format and the audio lessons as a ZIP file so that you can learn and practice offline too.

Looking for Sruthi Box to help yourself stay in the pitch when you sing without background music? KarNatik provides major sruthi files in the WAV format. Use it for your recordings (when you are using Cool Edit Pro or Adobe Audition to record, put it in the loop so that it would keep playing till you finish) or just play it in the audio player to practice.

Jo, Can anybody really learn Karnatic online ? - Without help of a teacher physically present.
>> Sabu: Good question. I believe that the physical presence of the teacher is better than anything else. The online lessons would be helpful for those who don't have that choice. But nothing to beat an interactive learning session. I think this would be more helpful to those who learnt basic lessons and want to practice it.
